Golfo Aranci

The very characteristic city of Golfo Aranci, situated 18 Km. North of Olbia, in Sardinia in the province of Olbia-Tempo just at the feet of Capo Figari and across the island of Figarolo.

In the middle of the 19th century, Golfo Aranci, as per the ruling of the house of Savoia, it was transformed from a small fisherman village into one of the main well equipped and efficient ports of Costa Smeralda.

Golfo Aranci is a tranquil tourist location, unique to the entire Emerald coast even with its small county of 38 Km squared and 2.200 habitants it features 15 beaches which are very well-known for their clean waters, white sands, and its rows and rows of small docs that lead the way into Olbia.

Golfo Aranci is not only renowned for its beaches, but also for the numerous interesting places to visit of which one cannot forget.

One of these is the rocky promontory of Capo Figari which is 344 meters high and has approximately 200 meters of rocky terrain overlooking the sea and is accessible by water trough the Cala Greca coast or through land passing by the famous and splendid Cala Moresca, which may only be reached by foot or by bicycle because it is a protected touristic area.

The natural reserve of Capo Figari which includes the rocky promontory baring the same name of Capo, from which one may enjoy a splendid view of the Golfo degli Aranci in its entirety. This location has been utilized has a military watching site and by Guglielmo Marconi whom at the beginning of his radio wave experiments was transmitting from the top of the promontory toward his ship named Ellettra which was situated in the middle of the Golfo.

The Sacred Well of Milis, a typical construction of the neuralgic era is one of the many archeological finds which are present in the area as also are the characteristic Ship Wreck Cemeteries of Cala Greca and Cala Fenice.

The Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute, headquarter to the well-known international center, where researchers come from all over the world to participate in research projects and deepen their research and understanding between dolphins and humans in the field of artisan fishing. Golfo Aranci, is the nest of a dolphin population called "tursiope", which may only be found in the Meditteranean coast and may be seen in these waters from sunrise to sunset.

Golfo Aranci's small historical center is where the old Church of San Giuseppe has been built that contains various masterpieces of local artists. The Patron protector Saint of Golfo Aranci is San Giuseppe, which is celebrated every year on the 19th of March.

From the Gabbiano Azzurro Hotel you will find many pleasant walks along the Via Liberta' street, among the local craftsman shops, souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants until you will reach the fisherman's port with its local fresh fish market.

Reaching Golfo Aranci is very simple. By car you may quickly reach Olbia (15 minutes) and Porto Rotondo (5 minutes). By boat you will have to use the coordinates of 41o0'N 9o37'.
