Mickey Mouse And The Mystery Of The Giants 0 Comments

Today we want to dedicate, in a special edition, a blog on the latest release of Mickey Mouse’s comic, number 3585 on newsstands this week, which has dedicated about fifty pages to our wonderful Giants Of Mont'e Prama, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of their discovery (1974-2024), already proposed to UNESCO for recognition as representative of the Nuragic Civilisation.

We had written about the Giants when, during ploughing of the fields, 5178 fragments of statues were accidentally brought to light (after further excavations more than 10,000 fragments were collected). Pieces of heads, busts, arms, legs and shields which, in the Restoration and Conservation Centre of Li Punti (Sassari), have been meticulously reconstructed, giving them the human appearance of 28 enormous stone statues, approximately two metres high, who were called The Giants of Mont'e Prama, belonging to a proud and mysterious ancient warrior aristocracy.

The venture of Mickey Mouse and the Mystery of the Giants is inspired by their story, with all its nicest characters, ranging from Topoi who falls in love with Minnia, to the very nice Pippeddu Beddu, being for the occasion the exceptional sculptor of the Giants’ statues. 

But during the story, written by the Sardinian Bruno Enna and wonderfully drawn by the Sardinian Luca Usai, who managed to insert a Sardinia peculiarity into each illustration, we see the typical Nuragic village with three-towers nuraghe in the centre, which recalls the Nuragic Complex Of Santu Antine, a jewel of proto-Sardinian architecture, with the most imposing nuraghe of northern Sardinia. We learn about The Janas, about the famous Nuragic Bronze Statuettes, here being created by Pippeddu Beddu. The Sardinian saying "Centu cocasa, centu berrittasa" is mentioned, meaning a hundred heads a hundred ways of thinking. And in our case, to avoid confusion, the chief speaks wearing a pointed hat, as the ancient Sardinians used to. It is also explained that The Nuraghi were always built without the use of cement, but with the stones were placed with singular skill one on top of each other. And finally, the enemies who are discouraged from invading the island by the exhibition of the colossal archers, warriors and boxers, the Giants of Mont'e Prama displayed to protect the Sardinian people. 

The appreciation of the Gabbiano Azzurro Hotel & Suites blog goes precisely to the divulging of the treasures of Sardinia. And in fact, the largest of the group of 28 statues, a boxer, familiarly called Manneddu, in Sardinian from "mannu" which means both great and ancestor, was also given the task of propagation. It is an almost 2 metres, weighing 330 kg statue, which toured Europe during the travelling exhibition "Sardinia Megalithic Island", visiting the main capitals and exhibited for 6 months at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and has now returned to Cabras in Sardinia.
