The Zodiac Fountain Of Tinnura 0 Commentaires

It's just a two-hours drive to cover the 151 km dividing the Gabbiano Azzurro Hotel & Suites from Tinnura (OR), located in the centre of Planargia. The Tinnura railway station is located along the line connecting Macomer with Bosa where the Trenino Verde travels. It is a small village full of surprises, a precious cameo deserving to be visited: fountains and many murals for sight delight of those who stop to admire them, its strength and uniqueness being an open-air museum town.

The town centre offers a pleasant chromatic result with its streets and squares paved in grey basalt, with its polychrome floors made of red trachyte and white Orosei‘s marble. And then the splendid Piazza del Sole with the Zodiac Fountain, built in 2004 by Simplicio De Rosas, with basalt mouths depicting the zodiac signs and a "V" shaped basin, where the water falls on two orders of overlapping tanks.

That’s not all we have. Above the fountain there is a gigantic mural with a rural subject. As already mentioned in Orgosolo: The Murals City, also in Tinnura the walls are covered with murals. In the square, the perimeter walls represent a symbolism going from the Nuragic period to modern times, and in the centre, there is a round fountain with a monument dedicated to an asphodel artisan lady, representing the basket creators. It is called S'Iscrarionzu after the asphodel name, whose long leaves are dried and woven to create the typical baskets, with the asphodel carving technique. In fact, Tinnura is famous for this very weaving process, a thousand-year-old activity of which we have already written about in The Nuragic Origin Of The Sardinian Basket.

In Piazza Giovanni XXXIII, in addition to the statue dedicated to the Good Pope and the statue depicting the God of the Winds (the town is beaten by the Mistral), there is a beautiful star-shaped fountain. The works were created by nationally renowned Sardinian artists including the sculptors Pinuccio Sciola and Simplicio De Rosas.

Before reaching the station, there is a small fountain: the Fountain Funtana e Giosso, which up to a few years ago was used for the collection of water and the maceration of asphodel, and inside has a small plastered dome with a central hole. From the small fragments found, the fountain is truly ancient: in addition to modern ceramic fragments, there are others from Late Antiquity and the following Middle Age.

Another point of pride of the territory is the wine Malvasia di Sardegna which has been cultivated and produced for centuries and Tinnura falls within the production area of ​​the Malvasia di Bosa Doc wine, which can be normal and reserve, passito or sparkling wine and is scented, fruity, soft, sweet and harmonious on the palate.
